Club Rules

North Leominster Rod & Gun Club – September, 2022

In accordance with existing club bylaws, the Board of Directors has established the following rules and policies for club operations.  These provisions apply equally to members and guests whenever they are on club property.

NLRGC has a zero tolerance policy for confrontations on all our ranges and club property. Anyone observed violating the rules and policies of this club shall be referred to the Board of Directors for appropriate disciplinary action.  Members are encouraged to note the vehicle type and license number of anyone seen violating club rules and to report them to a club officer or director as soon as possible.

  1. Grounds and Buildings:
    1. OFF-ROAD VEHICLES (trail bikes, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc.) AND HORSES are not permitted on club property, except when they are being used for transportation to and from the club for functions or when used to support supervised club events.
    2. No Littering.  This includes the leaving of trash next to, or piling on top of any full trash container.  If a container is full, please take your trash to the dumpster or discard it in some other manner.  Members are encouraged to empty full containers into the dumpster.  Dumping of personal household or business trash on club property is prohibited. 
    3. Club grounds and/or facilities are not available for use for private functions unless approved by the Board of Directors.
    4. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of an adult, at all times, when on club property.
    5. EYE AND EAR PROTECTION is required on all ranges, except Archery, at all times when shooting is taking place.  That includes those individuals who may be scoring or pulling targets.
    6. Shooters and spectators must obey Club Range Officers at all times.  All persons using club facilities do so at their own risk and peril.  As such, the North Leominster Rod and Gun Club, Inc. assumes no liability for the deliberate or accidental acts of those using their facilities.
    7. The maximum SPEED LIMIT ON CLUB PROPERTY is 15 MPH.
    8. NO SMOKING is allowed in any club buildings at any time.
    9. NO PETS are allowed in the main clubhouse at any time.  All pets on the club grounds must be accompanied by their owners and kept under control at all times. Service dogs are allowed.
    10. LOADED FIREARMS are not allowed away from the firing line on club property except for firearms worn for personal protection, which must remain  holstered.
    11. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES are allowed on any of the club ranges at any time.  No one is allowed to use any range or to handle firearms once they are known to have consumed any amount of alcoholic beverages.
    12. The ENTRANCE ROAD GATE must be down and locked at all times, except when the club is open for business with the public (skeet/trap hours, firearms training classes, meetings, etc.).  If you enter/exit club property by using your gate code please lock the gate behind you. If you are the last person to leave, close the gate as you exit.
    13. Ranges may be closed for events such as stocked bird hunting.  Signs or notifications will provide notice in advance.
  2. Archery:
    1. Only club members and their guests are permitted to use the Archery Range.  Guests are permitted one time use only.
    2. The Archery Range is open from 8:00 a.m. to one half hour before sunset daily.
    3. ABSOLUTELY NO FIREARMS or BROADHEAD ARROWS are allowed on the Archery Range.
    4. Crossbows are allowed on the archery range only if field tips are used. 
  3. Rifle and Pistol Ranges:
    1. The hours of operation of the rifle and pistol ranges are 8:00 a.m. until one half hour before sunset daily.
    2. Only club members are permitted to use the Rifle and Pistol Ranges.  Members are allowed to bring a guest during the week, Monday through Friday.  Guests are permitted a one time use of the ranges only when accompanied by a current member.
    3. The red overhead lights must be turned on to indicate a cold range before going downrange.
    4. ALL FIREARMS AT THE FIRING LINE MUST BE EMPTY AND CLEARED, with actions open and magazines removed, before anyone goes down range or off the firing line.  
    5. No one on the firing line may handle any firearm, magazine, or ammunition whenever anyone is down range.
    6. You are to only load a single firearm when you are using it at the firing line. All other guns must be unloaded and either (a) cased or (b) with their actions open and visible.
    7. All FIREARMS MUST BE TREATED AS THOUGH THEY WERE LOADED AT ALL TIMES.  
      1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
      2. Always keep your finger off the trigger till ready to shoot.
      3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
    8. GLASS, CANS and TRASH may not be used as targets. Other than Board of Directors-approved targets, only non-metallic/ paper targets are permitted. Remove and dispose of your targets after use. Do not engage steel targets any closer than 30 feet
    9. Fully Automatic Weapons are not permitted, including static trigger activators.
    10. All projectiles MUST COME TO REST IN THE BACKSTOP.
      1. You must fire at targets that are directly in front of an earth berm.
      2. Do not fire at low targets / targets placed on the ground where projectiles will glance off the ground and fly over the backstop.
      3. Don’t fire into the woods.
      4. Do not fire over the backstop.
      5. Rapid fire (firing faster than you can control) is prohibited. 
      6. Any member seen firing projectiles that do not end in the backstop could be suspended from the club.
    11. Tracer and incendiary ammunition are not permitted.
    12. PISTOL RANGE Specific Rules 
      1. Pistol Range Paper Targets:
        1. You may Shoot at paper with
          1. Pistols and revolvers of all pistol calibers
          2. .22 Rimfire rifles
          3. Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) such as 9mm, 45acp etc
        2. You many not shoot at paper with
          1. Any centerfire rifle
          2. Any rimfire rifle with a higher velocity than .22
          3. Any black powder rifles
          4. Any shotguns
      2. Pistol Range Steel Targets
        1. You may shoot steel with
          1. Pistols and revolvers of all pistol calibers on gong and silhouette targets
          2. Pistol and Revolvers of 9mm and 45acp and smaller on plate racks
          3. .22 Rimfire rifles
        2. You may not shoot steel targets with
          1. Any magnum pistols or revolvers on the plate racks as it damages them.
          2. Any Shotguns
          3. Any centerfire rifles
          4. Any pistol caliber carbines (PCCs)
      3. Steel Plates may be limited by design to specific calibers. Refer to firing line placards for individual steel plate rack limitations
    13. RIFLE RANGE Specific Rules
      1. Shotguns are allowed but only slugs may be used.
      2. Shot of any size (buckshot, birdshot, etc.) is not allowed.
      3. Use the  patterning board by skeet field 1 for shot patterning
      4. Firearms using .50 BMG AMMUNITION ARE NOT PERMITTED without the consent of the Board of Directors.
      5. Shoot at the berm directly in front of your shooting position. Avoid shooting across the downrange area.
      6. When sighting in, start at the 50y berm and work your way up. Do not shoot 200y if you can’t stay on the paper at 50y or 100y. All projectiles fired MUST come to rest in the backstop.
  4. Trap and Skeet Ranges:
    1. Except for Registered sanctioned shoots, every shooter is responsible for picking up their expended hulls.  Those shooters not complying with this rule will be surcharged additional monies to defray the repair costs on club equipment damaged by hulls left on the grounds.  Suspension from the club may also be imposed for repeated violations.
    2. Our Trap and Skeet Ranges are open to members and non-members on the days and times posted on the club’s website. These ranges are only open to members outside of those posted operating hours.  Shooters must supply their own equipment and must assume all liability when using the ranges.
    3. The following SAFETY RULES apply at all times:
      1. ACTIONS MUST REMAIN OPENED WHEN GUNS ARE IN GUN RACKS, except for break open guns.
      2. Guns must be left in gun racks or gun cases when not in use.
      3. Carried guns must be kept pointed in a down range direction.
      4. Guns must be carried with their ACTIONS OPEN.
      5. Do not change position or stations with a shell in the gun.
      6. Do not load your gun unless in position to shoot.  Keep the action open until it is your turn and you are ready to shoot
    4. SHOTGUN Range Specific Rules
      1. Only shotguns are allowed on all trap and skeet ranges.
      2. Rifle/pistol shooting is restricted to ranges specifically designated for that type of target shooting. 
      3. TARGET LOADS ONLY on all trap and skeet ranges. 
      4. SHOT SIZE IS LIMITED TO 7 ½ OR SMALLER, NO EXCEPTIONS.
